Heartland Film Institute presents
ANIMATED FILMMAKING: EMOTIONS IN MOTION
with John B. Ludwick
Thursday, September 10, 2009
IUPUI Campus Center
Film animation is an intriguing form of visual storytelling. Modern technology has increased the versatility of ways this art form is integrated into films. Award-winning animator and director John Ludwick leads us through key animation principles that underpin all successful animation projects. Ludwick’s credits include directing 2-D and 3-D animated television spots for Cartoon Network, PBS Kids and Toon Disney as part of an Atlanta-based broadcast design firm. Now as Clinical Assistant Professor of New Media at IUPUI’s School of Informatics, Ludwick opens up what it takes to make a quality animated film and explores which international cultures have embraced animation. Having served as both host and judge for the VisionFest animation festival, Ludwick has inspired and taught student animators to develop their talent and explore careers in animation. Here is your chance to learn from one of the best how to move your audience using sophisticated visual storytelling. Or, as John Ludwick likes to call it, Emotion in Motion.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
John B. Ludwick has been an animator for nearly a decade. He earned his Bachelor's of Fine Arts Degree in Graphic Design and Master of Fine Arts Degree in Sequential Art (the art of visual storytelling) at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Prior to joining the New Media faculty at IUPUI, he worked for the Broadcast Design firm Primal Screen in Atlanta, Georgia. As an independent project, Ludwick designed, directed and animated the short Baguira; this depiction of one minute in a house cat's life was shown in Brazil's 2003 Anima Mudi festival. John’s accolades include the Gold Broadcast Design Award (BDA) for Best Television Website Promotion and a shared Potluck Gold BDA for the Siggraph short Road to San Antone, which he storyboarded.
